Stillness and light. A new etching aquatint I made in college today. It shows the shadows of plants in late evening brilliant sunshine. I loved the reflection of them on the wall up the stairs- even more than the pot plants themselves. Perfect for plant 🪴 lovers. I’ll try a variety of colours next week. It’s a risk letting a fluffy long haired Lola in as I can guarantee I will find a rogue hair on a roller- but she’s worth it ! She loves to sit on my chair and watch. Bit of a personal one and a technical challenge. An aquatint etching, inspired by a photograph I took in France after heavy rain. The morning sun made a complex reflection from the water on the table onto the wall. One print with the blue sky showing and one without. #printmaker #aquatint #aquatintetching #peelreveal

Testing, testing a new Spring linocut. Love rolling on the ink for the first time. I usually do a trial colour print to test for areas which may need more carving. Lots of flowers, hellebores, snowdrops, bluebells and lily of the valley feature in the print. I do have a solitary snowdrop flowering in the garden already ! It’s like carving butter in the summertime, quite the opposite in winter. I have also been enjoying mixing up and overlaying different textures. A few photos to end the year with. Silent Snowfall is one of my favourite etchings from this year, calm and peaceful. Maybe it will bring us some snowfall ❄️ this Christmas ? I can’t believe that my climbing rose is flowering in December at the front of our home and has new buds ! In my cabin adding hand painted finishing touches to these delicate foxglove linocuts. They have been a popular print and I needed to re-stock ready for my next two Christmas events. I was pleased to see lots of foxglove seedlings at the allotment on Sunday as well. #linocut #handmade #handfinished #handpainted #foxglove #surreyartist #printmaking

This print Seaside Stroll has been really popular and 3 were sold last week ! It’s a zinc plate hard ground etching with aquatint. A detailed process which involves painting the plate with black varnish ( stop out) in layers and dipping each layer into acid. The first layer will be the lightest and each layer gradually creates a darker tone. It’s a bit of jeopardy as you never know if all the hard work will have paid off when you wipe the plate clean and print. This print was inspired by a photograph taken in Brixham’s pretty harbour in Devon but could easily be any seaside town. I loved the clear reflections of the boats on the water. Printed from an original linocut jigsaw design which I sketched and then hand carved. I have lovely peel and seal envelopes ( very satisfying) and am selling 10 cards and envelopes for £8.00 on my website now. Link in Bio. I’m at RHS Wisley Gallery all day today if you are visiting. The Gallery is in the main shop, past the book area and Christmas area. Everything in the gallery is handmade by local artists. Today I gave a poor, soaked bee a helping hand. After the heavy rain the bee looked a bit lifeless and was clinging onto a Dahlia. A little drink of sugar mixture, warm sunshine and off he flew. My new linocut print has bees 🐝…. and flowers. Does anyone know what type of bee he is ? He didn’t look like a bumble bee. #savethebees #savethebeessavetheworld

I had a wonderful day yesterday, I returned to a secondary school for the second year to teach a Printmaking Workshop to 45 Year 10 pupils. We made botanical monoprints, layered details, used an etching press and then every pupil carved and printed their own linocut for the very first time ! All pupils were an absolute joy to teach, I was over the moon to hear ‘This is sic !’ High praise indeed for the printmaking reveal process 😉 I was also delighted to see the amazing GCSE exam pieces on display which were inspired by the printmaking workshop from last year. Great to return to Etching Wednesdays. I enjoyed inking up this steel plate with coral pinks and a la poupée yellow which blends in well to show the centre of the peony. One of my favourites. Look forward to some new experimental zinc and steel plates this term. #etchings #printmaker #printmakersofinstagram #originalartwork #originalprint #alapoupee #peony

This linocut is ‘Floral Chorus’ it’s 35 cm by 35 cm it includes roses, peonies, echinacea, hollyhocks, poppies and more ! I’m going to make solid colour prints and also a original prints with a mix of pinks, cerise, greens and yellows and blue inks. I’ll post pictures later this week, all prints will be available to buy on my website next week or message me for more information.

Combining many favourite flowers onto one new large floral linocut print. The early stages of letting the flowers flow together and allow movement just as they do in the garden borders. My Grandad used to grow amazing dahlias and now my sister and I also love growing dahlias. So many shapes and sizes in a rainbow of colours. I grow them in the garden and at the allotment. I have tried to capture them in a reduction linocut which took a long time to complete ! I only have 16 prints which I will post on my website on Friday. My new print ‘ Summer Breeze’ celebrates lazy summer days, blue skies, gentle green leaves and pink sunsets. It’s wonderful to be one of 12 resident artists at The Wisley Gallery and here is the print which I hung today, along with some of the beautifully crafted pieces, such as @naomibeevers handsome 🐦‍⬛. You can also see ‘Orchids’ and ‘Beneath the Cherry Blossom’ prints in the third photo. My print is available to buy framed at The Wisley Gallery or unframed from my website. From sketching to carving to inking and print pulling each linocut is made by me, by hand. Hand printed with Cranfield calico safe wash inks on Fabriano 300 gsm paper, print size height 40 cm, width 30 cm- edition of 20 with this colour scheme .
