Fairlight Prints

Contemporary
floral prints, carved by hand.
Original linocuts and etchings inspired by my own floral sketchbooks — bold, colourful pieces made slowly in my home art cabin.

Linocut prints
My prints are sketched from observational drawings of flowers in my garden and on my allotment plot. These sketches are transferred to lino and hand carved into the lino block using specialist Pfeil carving tools.
I use water-based inks and a beautiful Rollaco press to create the prints in an Art cabin at the bottom of my garden.

Etchings and Aquatints
Sophie makes her etchings in a professional Art studio. It can take up to 10 hours to design, draw and create a plate ready to take prints from. She uses zinc and steel plates, hard and soft ground to draw an image into the plate using etching tools. The complex aquatint process achieves tonal interest and depth.
