The delicate flowers and dew lined leaves of the Lily of the Valley. I am so excited that this etching has been selected for a 'Draw and Bite' etching exhibition at Sevenoaks Kaleidoscope Gallery in September and October 2024.
This hard ground etching was carefully etched by drawing into the ground surface. The plate is then placed in an acid bath to allow the acid to 'bite' into the plate, the incised line or sunken area holds the ink. A further process called Aquatint allows me to create a range of tonal effects to create the final image.
This aquatint was made by placing an etched plate into an Aquatint Box, rosin dust then settles onto the plate, graduations of white in the plate are achieved by painting 'stop out' onto the plate and placing it into an acid bath for different amounts of time.
